What is this?
Attorneys and interested members of the public are encouraged to volunteer time to this clinic by attending a training session and assisting with filling out victims' applications. The training will be held on Saturday, April 28 from 10am to 11am and the actual clinic will follow promptly after. Please use the Register Now button or RSVP to bmfurnish@acluaz.org to volunteer.
This clinic is being put on to assist victims with filling out applications for the MCSO Compensation Fun Program. The Program was created as a result of the decision in the
Ortega-Melendres v. Arpaio
litigation, which found MCSO stopped or held people between December 23, 2011 and May 24, 2013 in violation of a Preliminary Injunction. The Preliminary Injunction prohibited MCSO deputies from detaining a person solely on the basis that MCSO personnel believed the person was in the US without authorization.
The State Bar of Arizona does not approve or accredit CLE activities for the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirement. This activity may qualify for up to 1 hour toward your annual CLE requirement for the State Bar of Arizona, including 0 hours of professional responsibility.
The Clinic is being put on by the ACLU, Los Abogados, and Center for Neighborhood Leadership.
The mission of Los Abogados is to develop, empower, and support the Latino community through the advancement of the legal profession.
