ACLU Compensation Fund Training Starting December 1, 2017, people who were stopped or held by MCSO between December 23, 2011 and May 24, 2013 in violation of the Preliminary Injunction in the Ortega Melendres v. Penzone litigation may apply to participate in a court-ordered compensation program. The Preliminary Injunction prohibited MSCO deputies from detaining a person solely on the basis that MCSO personnel believed the person was in the US without authorization.
On Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 11:30 A.M.-2:30 P.M., the ACLU of Arizona and Los Abogados will be holding a free clinic aimed at helping victims fill out applications for the Compensation Fund Program. A one hour training will be held for attorneys and interested members of the public who want to help victims fill out applications. Spanish-speakers are strongly encouraged to attend. Attorneys who attend this training can receive 1 hour of CLE credit. The training will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9th from 10:30 A.M-11:30 A.M. and the actual clinic will follow promptly after.
