Los Abogados' 50th Anniversary — Historical Night
Saturday, July 11, 2026 · 6:00 PM · Mountain Time (Arizona)
Fifty years ago, a handful of Latino lawyers borrowed a conference room at the Arizona Attorney General's office and decided to organize. They had no budget, no staff, and no guarantee anyone would show up to the next meeting. They had the conviction that the legal profession in Arizona looked nothing like the state it served.
On July 11, we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Los Abogados at the Found:RE Hotel in Phoenix. Four speakers will take the stage: January Contreras, Hon. Jessica Sanchez, Marcos Tapia, and Sal Macias. A historical exhibit will draw on fifty years of organizational records, oral histories, and archival research.
Phoenix painter Michael Padilla will paint live during the program. The finished canvas goes to auction that night, with proceeds supporting the scholarship fund and pipeline programs. The Valdemar Cordova Scholarship supports Latino law students at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona.
Admission is free. Donate $25 or more and pick up a commemorative 50th anniversary pin at check-in. Your donations support the scholarship, pipeline programs, and stipends for the next generation of Latino lawyers. The Los Abogados Foundation is a 501(c)(3), and every donor receives an automatic tax receipt.
